Having given some indications around nursing going back as far as World War One, in the so called Samaritan’s course, Rudolf Steiner planned to give a dedicated course to nurses in May 1925. After his death in March of 1925, Ita Wegman, his close colleague, went ahead with this conference along with other medical colleagues, having already discussed a lot of the content with Steiner. Now that there is a resurgence in attempting to understand the role of nursing within Anthroposophic medicine, not just practically but socially and esoterically, research and engagement around this course are vital.

Rolf Heine is an anthroposophic nurse trained at the Filderklinik, where he also founded the Academy of Anthroposophic Nursing. He specialises in palliative nursing and research. He is also very involved in political representation of nurses, especially as President of the International Council of Anthroposophic Nursing Associations (ICANA). He has published many books
